This is from Broadway in Manhattan, looking south.

This picture reminds me of the times we are all in.  The clouds are still up there, the storm is not far away but things are looking up.

I’ve been working at a company in Brooklyn’s DUMBO neighborhood called Edit.com. I’m a website consultant and I get to talk to small business owners from all acros

s the nation all day. It’s great! These people are smart, creative, interesting and successful at what they do. The most exciting part of it is they never cease to keep me engaged, interested and surprised. For example, a few weeks back I called a window washer in Dallas, Texas.  I didn’t go into the call with high hopes that our services would be of great benefit to him or that he would be able to afford them. It turns out that this man who admitted to being “two days older than dirt” cleans the windows of 10 to 11 thousand houses a year! Well him and his employees do. Every year business grows and he adds another truck and a crew of men to work it. The trucks are F250′s.

Today I spoke to the marketing manager of LePeep’s in Dallas who said that they run community marketing efforts. I asked what she meant and she said that recently they delivered free lunch (or maybe it was breakfast) to secretaries at the hospitals nearest to each of their 5 locations. I thought this was just great! It’s considerate and it shows that they really do believe in having a good relationships  with the people who will come to keep them in business for years to come.

The best part of it is that things are picking up for these folks. These businesses have survived the storm of the recession are carving out their bounce back. And I get to help them do it by bringing fresh ideas to them. Of course these ideas are centered around their website but, it’s 2010. By now we all know the internet was not a fad and that this is where business is going.

Anyway I don’t want to go on and on but I will do my best to share my stories with anyone who may run across my thoughts here.

Looking forward to regular entries!
